Woodcreek drops softball opener
Staff Report
Kurt Johnson, The Press Tribune
Tarryn Gordon hits in a game last season. She had a double in Tuesday's loss to Sheldon.

An 11-hit attack was not enough Tuesday when the Woodcreek High softball team stared down an explosive Sheldon squad in its season opener.

Led by three hits and four RBIs from senior Abby Bates, the Timberwolves stages a valiant comeback after falling behind 9-1, but fell short in a 13-8 final. The Huskies tallied six times in the third inning to build their lead, and it was a six-run sixth that kept Woodcreek hanging around, but in the middle was just too much of a talented Sheldon team.

The Huskies more than matched Woodcreek's offensive explosion with their own 12-hit attack and cashed in every chance they were given.

Four Woodcreek errors, and a number of walks and hit batters all turned into extra bases or runs for Sheldon.

Lauren Clark-Lewis had two doubles for the Timberwolves and Tarryn Gordon also belted a two-bagger for Woodcreek.

The Timberwolves (0-1) play in the Sacramento Victory tournament at the Sacramento Softball Complex beginning Thursday, when they will see Sierra Foothill League rival Del Oro in their opener.
