Little League overload coming - it must be summer
During all of the years I coached Little League baseball, the middle of June was a time of great excitement for me.
For my wife, it stirred a whole wave of different emotions. This is the time of year when Little League coaches get perhaps a little too caught up in tournament fever.
Head out to a local Little League field almost any time of day and you will find all-star and tournament of champions teams holding long practice sessions to get ready for what they hope will be a long run.
It was a pleasure last year to follow Lakeside’s all-star team on its historic run, and this year promises more excitement with new faces and new names. The game, however, remains the same.
For youth baseball fans looking for your Little League fix, the postseason action gets underway this coming weekend, with tournament of champions play at Mann Park and Kuntz Field in Folsom for the Little Leaguers and at Golden Sierra High School for the Junior division.
All-stars start a week later, with tournaments at Maidu Park, Richards Field (Roseville High School), Feist Park in Granite Bay and in Folsom at Lembi Park.
We will try to cover it all, and will also try to keep our fingers on the pulse of Pony Baseball’s postseason play as well as the Roseville Girls Softball Thunder teams as they enter their tournament action.
So much to cover, but what an exciting time for these young people. This is their time of year, as there are no high school sports to steal their limelight.
I don’t coach Little League any more, but I still feel that sense of anticipation as we get ready for these games to begin.
Follow all of the summer youth sports action online at rosevillept.com and placersports.com. If we are not covering your team or sport, drop me a note and help me get the information I need to make sure that we do cover your team.
