Term limits unnecessary
READER INPUT
It is interesting to listen to the Loomis term limits people get more and more riled up. Term limits are not necessary in a democracy, because we have a much more important effective tool called majority rule. This means that after an election, the person or persons with the most votes wins. They get to hold the office they were elected to. When a majority of the electorate no longer wants them in office, someone else will be elected. The framers of the Constitution limited the nation’s presidency to two terms because they didn’t want anything like a king. But this is Loomis, and we are talking about the town council for less than 10,000 people. The town council represents the wishes of the town’s people. If or when it does not, because of majority rule, other members will be chosen. Term limits are unnecessary and artificial in a community that knows its members well. Claudia Starkey, Penryn
