Budget cuts reduce library hours of operation
As a result of budget cuts, city libraries’ hours changed this week. All locations will close two hours earlier on Thursdays and the Downtown Library will open two hours later on Saturdays. The Maidu Library will also now be closed on Saturdays. Although there are fewer hours to visit the library, many services are online, said Lisa Dale, library supervisor. “The library online services can be accessed 24/7. Patrons can go online to manage their account, search for titles and place holds,” she said. “You can place a hold online and then pick up when the library opens.” The city library system has 190,000 items in its collection and checked out more than 1 million items last year, Dale said. New city library hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, the Martha Riley Community Library is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Downtown Library is open from 12-5 p.m. and the Maidu Library is closed. All libraries are closed on Sunday. This week also marks the 20th anniversary of the Maidu Library. The public is invited to attend a ceremony and reception to celebrate from 5-6 p.m. Thursday at 1530 Maidu Drive in Roseville. Enjoy light refreshments and live music from library employee Christian Moore. Email library@roseville.ca.us about why you enjoy using the Maidu Library to be entered into a raffle. ~ Michelle Carl
