Arrests raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy Association
Left, Lisa Harvey Vittek, executive director of the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation, and Andrew Sheehy, right, executive director of the Sacramento Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, pose with “jailbird” Chad Shepherd of Kovars Martial Arts during the MDA Telethon’s Executive Lock-Up event Thursday at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. Thursday’s event brought in $75,000 from members of the business community who were “arrested” and had to raise their “bail” to be released. Rocklin’s Vittek founded the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation after her daughter Kayla was born with the disorder. She spoke to jailbirds Thursday about how the money they raise helps families like hers. “(The Musuclar Dystrophy Association) provides hope for families who felt they’ve been thrown into a pit,” Vittek said. “They provide so much emotional support. We’re really close with everyone who works there. They give of themselves every day.”
