Why Negotiate? Tough Luck County Employees
County forces contract on employees

Jim Rufallo hinted at it recently - I had no idea it would go down so fast - but I just heard that the County Board of Supes voted 4-1 to empose a 1 year contract on the County Employee's. No mediation - no real and honest negotiations - don't like it go work somewhere else!

(Here is Kirk's actual quote:

"If you don't like the compensation structure ... nobody is forcing you to remain in county service," Uhler said. "Nobody is chained to their desk.") - Hey Kirk here is another way to start the statement while I appreciate and respect the terrific staff we have here at Placer.......

careful what you ask for Kirk! - (note to Kirk: These employees in good faith chose to come work for Placer based on the offer they were given - many left other areas both in the public and private sectore to come work for Placer )- this is not how you treat people who have dedicated their lives working for Placer County (us!)

The rubber stampers 4 led the charge as Ms. Montgomery once again was the "odd" one out - She had the far fetched opinion that mediation may want to be tried before forcing a one sided deal on the counties rank and file.

I am far from a big union supporter - but I find the way the management and board have been treating the rank and file of this county is just not right. Their take it or leave it attitude is hurting more than just morale - it will affect public safety and services for all of us.

Going from negotiations to a forced contract, like this come on - the item barely was even discussed & the folks in the county probably didn't even know negotiations were in progress sans a opinion piece in the Journal I am not aware of any talks being reported -

Once again the County will show tens of millions of dollars in surplus - millions and millions of building projects all with new long-term liabilities attached - yet they treat our employees like this - Just not right - they care more about buildings than the employees who fill and maintain them

If I was told correctly the forced contract only has take-aways in it - lowering every employees income in the county (except the managers, for whom we all have seen continue to get nice 5% increases on a regular bases)

I tell you be it taking local park funds to the forced contracts being placed on the people we trust to provide the services and protection for all of us the direction at least 4 out of the 5 supervisors are taking is ugly - there seems to be a continuing seperation from the local constituents - not to mention our local employees -

There is an obvious rubber stamping trend that will only lead to bigger problems as we move forward -

Just an opinion - this is not strong fiscal planning and policy - it is arrogance and bad faith
