We can learn from ‘Atlas’
Reader Input
In 1957 Ayn Rand wrote of a world in chaos. An anti-industrial revolution caused by corrupt, inept and bloated governments, caused industry’s best, most creative minds to walk away. The result was global collapse. As industries failed huge job losses followed. Governments took control of financial institutions, industry and health care. They rewarded hard work and creativity with tax increases and laws that destroyed incentive. Productivity dropped, profits dried up and health care ceased. Society crumbled. “Atlas Shrugged” was fiction in 1957 but it’s a looming reality in 2010. Industry abuses have resulted in laws that attack profits. Controls, wars and massive social programs are creating an impossible debt. As the economy worsens greater numbers of desperate people turn to the government for help. A government that produces nothing but controls everything will fail. In the book industrial giants and creative minds walked away but regrouped behind an engineer named Jon Galt. From a secure location they planned an industrial rebirth. Until we find our own John Galt we must control government spending. We can’t just vote for change in November, we must vote for survival. Remove the spenders. Who is Jon Galt? Dick Isherwood, Lincoln
