Groups offer discounts to adopt pets from shelters
Manager: recession has created more homeless animals
It’s flooding cats and dogs at local animal shelters, which are offering discounts this month to encourage pet adoption. The new effort is a collaboration of Placer County Animal Services, Placer SPCA and A New Hope Animal Foundation.
“The ongoing recession has created more homeless animals, which means shelters have less ability to assist them,” said Mike Winters, program manager for the county’s Animal Services, in a release.
Placer SPCA will rebate full adoption costs for people who adopt felines one year or older from county shelters in Auburn and Tahoe Vista.
And A New Hope has slashed $50 off adoption costs for black kittens, plus $50 to $75 off adoption costs for selected dogs.
“We have amazing animals waiting for loving homes, and if this encourages people to come and take a look, I’m delighted,” he said.
