McCain has loudly criticized Obama for attending only one Senate hearing on Afghanistan over the past two years. But according to ABC research, Sen. John McCain, the top Republican on the Senate Armed Service Committee, has attended exactly zero of his committee's six hearings on Afghanistan over the last two years. None. Probably slipped Sen. Stool Softener's mind.

McCain had a unique POW experience. By McCain’s own account after three or four days in captivity, he cracked. He promised his Vietnamese captors, "I'll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital."

His Vietnamese capturers soon realized their POW, John Sidney McCain III, came from a wealthy line of American military eliteists. McCain’s father, John Jr. and his grandfather, John Sr., were both full admirals. A destroyer, the USS John S. McCain, is named after them.

While his son was held captive in Hanoi from 1968 to 1972, Admiral John McCain Jr. was the C.O. of the U.S. Pacific Command, 7th Fleet, in charge of all US forces in the Pacific, including the Republic of Vietnam.

McCain hates gooks to this day, but forgets that he owes a Vietnamese farmer his life. When he was shot down, a SAM sheared off a wing and McCain with a broken arm and leg, landed in a lake, entangled in his own parachute shrouds. The farmer swam out, cut him loose, and rescued the drowning McCain.

McCain acknowledges that the North Vietnamese rushed him to a hospital, but denies he was given any "special medical treatment." His own men disagree. The North Vietnamese took McCain to a hospital reserved for high-ranking communist officers and party officials. Unlike his fellow POWs, he received special care from a Russian surgeon.

Two weeks into his stay at the North Vietnamese hospital, the Hanoi press began quoting McCain, and it was not simply “name rank and serial number,” as specified by the code of conduct. McCain divulged very specific important military information: he gave the name of the aircraft carrier on which he was based, the number of US pilots that had been shot down, the number of aircraft in his squadron, as well as information about the location of offshore American pilot rescue ships.

Col. Earl Hopper (USA, ret.) says McCain divulged classified information that North Vietnam used to re-target their anti-aircraft missile system.

McCain gave his North Vietnamese captors “highly classified information, the most important of which was the package routes,(routes flown to bomb North Vietnam). He gave, in detail, the altitude they were flying, the direction, if they made a turn… he gave them what primary targets the United States was interested in...”

Col. Hopper says that the information McCain provided allowed the North Vietnamese to adjust their air defenses and as result, the US lost so many more aircraft that by 1968 they “called off the bombing of North Vietnam, because of the information McCain had given to them.”

Not content with divulging sensitive military information, McCain also gave propaganda speeches in broadcasts used by the North Vietnamese to demoralize American soldiers (and what would the Hate Jane Fonda Club members say?) Suffice to say that communist North Vietnamese radio propagandists made good use of McCain.

On June 4, 1969, a U.S. wire service headlined a story entitled "POW Songbird Is Pilot - Son of Navy Admiral.” The story reported that McCain collaborated in psychop offensives aimed at American servicemen. The broadcast was beamed to American servicemen in South Vietnam as a part of a propaganda series attempting to counter charges by U.S. Defense Secretary Melvin Laird that American prisoners were being mistreated in North Vietnam.

On one special occasion, General Vo Nguyen Giap, the top North Vietnamese commander, hero of the defeat of the French at Den Bien Fu, and an international celebrity, personally interviewed John McCain. McCain's compliance and helpfulness during this command performance was a propaganda victory for the North Vietnamese. His North Vietnamese began to use him regularly as prop during meetings with foreign dignitaries.

McCain spent five and a half years in North Vietnamese custody. While with the North Vietnamese, John McCain became what he is today: an opportunistic turncoat and professional stooge who worships power.

Now McCain is cozying up to the Christian right he once criticized. Flip-flop. He’s reversed positions on so many issues that his rivals have assembled his contrasting statements into: “The McCain versus McCain Debates.

Underlying the Jekyll and Hyde reversals is McCain’s hidden past of collaboration. He knows his POW collaboration contradicts the war "hero" image he projects. This essential dishonesty is a sign of a larger lack of character. McCain is not some principled leader, not a maverick cowboy fighting the powerful. He’s a sycophant. He believes in nothing but power and will do anything, anything including betrayal, to attain it. He explodes in anger when challenged because when a criticism hits too close, it goes to straight his guilt.

FYI: President-elect Al Gore, the Nobel Peace Prize winner, presented his challenge as a solution to three overlapping crises: an economic crisis fueled by rising energy prices; a global climate crisis; and a national security crisis fed by instability in the Middle East, the largest source of the world's oil supply.

"We're borrowing money from China to buy oil from the Persian Gulf to burn it in ways that destroy the planet," he said. "Every bit of that's got to change. It is only a truly dysfunctional system that would buy into the perverse logic that the short-term answer to high gasoline prices is drilling for more oil ten years from now."

Don’t be fooled, Leatherneck. All this scuttlebutt about offshore oil drilling and the price of gas and the pump are sea stories. In fact, the Republican Party is colluding with the oil and gas industry to drive up the price of energy, as Cheney promised.

The oil and gas industry, backed by their Right-Wing shills are on a coordinated and well-planned mission to end the twenty-six year old moratorium on off-shore oil and gas drilling in the USA. Why? Lots of reasons, all centered on money; to embarrass Obama, to take down the Congressional Democrats, to increase corporate profits by further driving up the price of energy and to remove the protections from public lands so they can be privately developed for big profits. Do you want caribou or do you want $3 gallon gas?

I believe it's even worse than Teapot Dome.

I was wondering how the anti-war left would react to Obama saying that we will leave troops in Iraq until conditions on the ground merit their removal, and call for 10,000 additional troops in Afghanistan.

Chunga, I am not certain how old the world is. My guess is it is somewhere between 6000 years old and 13000 years old. I am very familiar with the Bible, but this is the area where I haven't devoted much time. I am more drawn to the issues of God's salvation program for His people. The scientists think that this world has been around for millions of years. Let me tell you how the scientists miss this one a million away from truth. First of all, the scientist's conclusion is just as good as his guess, or what they call hypothesis (its fancy word for pure guess or speculation). Then, they work their way to prove their speculation. Unfortunately, if you are familiar with this subject, you know that their conclusion is just as good as their guess. Oh, pardon me, their hypothesis.

You believe in a fairy tale, written by men who lived in a time of superstition and ignorance. They wanted to subjugate women, keep education for only the wealthy, and considered progress and scientific thought as evil. Actually the writers of the bible wanted to keep down the masses with fear and superstition, and the heads of churches still want control.

Excuse my answer to your question. I can be a little thick sometimes. Bootsz was not in the "Crotch" we are related and I didn't notice Bootsz had not signed out. It was not Bootsz that said Semper Fi, it was me.

If McCain's life is based on faith, then that must come come first above family or nation as dictated by fundamental Christianity. Hopefully he won't push the button for some Godly reason such as "Kill the Infidels". It's obvious that the man can't put forth his own ideas and needs to be told what to say and what to do. It's madness to think that control of the government is more important than the life of the people. The leaders will crawl out of their protected spaces and gather those who survive a nuclear holocaust into containable units and set themselves up as Kings with new rules. It helps if they believe that God is on their side.
