The Jr. Midget Eagles completed an undefeated season with 11 wins when they won the Sierra Youth Football League (SYFL) Championship game Saturday against Oak Ridge Jr. Trojans. On a warm, fall day, with perfect football conditions, fans, coaches and players alike experienced a competitive and exciting football game between two respectable and proven teams.
Both teams came out strong and created turnovers beginning with Del Oro capitalizing on a recovered Oak Ridge fumble by Dylan Kainrath who then tossed the ball to Michael Moore who ran 65 yards for Del Oro's first TD. After Brenden Montoya’s successful PAT, the score early in the first quarter was 8-0.
In the second quarter Jahaan Nargussi caught an outstanding 40 yard pass from QB, Michael Moore, on a third and 12 helping boost the offensive momentum to score. With only 45 seconds left in the first half, Del Oro scored with a 15 yard pass completion in the end zone from Michael Moore to Brandon Snow. Another successful PAT by Brenden Montoya left the halftime score Del Oro 16, Oak Ridge 0.
Brenden Montoya returned a spectacular 50 yard interception in the third quarter putting the Eagles in great field position once again. Dylan Kainrath was able to plow up the middle on a 12 yard run into the end zone for a third and final Jr. Eagle TD. Brenden Montoya’s third PAT made the score 24-0 with a quarter and a half left to play. Nothing could penetrate the dominating Jr. Eagle defense as they wore down the Jr. Trojans. This was Del Oro’s eighth shutout of the season.
Congratulations Del Oro Jr. Midget Eagles!
