High school seniors considering their options for college will get a first-hand look at William Jessup University, the Greater Sacramento area’s only four-year private residential university, on Thursday, Nov. 20.

Preview Day gives students and parents the opportunity to attend classes and interact with faculty, students and other parents in a small, intimate setting. Information about majors and financial aid will be available throughout the day.

“Preview Day is a unique way for students and their families to understand how seriously we take our commitment to educating the whole student: academically, spiritually and socially,” said Vance Pascua, director of admission at William Jessup University.

“At a time of economic uncertainty, many families and students might overlook the possibility of attending a private university, but the reality is that the financial commitments may not be as great as prospective students think,” Pascua said.

The university offers a variety of scholarships and financial assistance. In the current academic year, the university awarded more than $2.2 million in institutional financial aid.

“Many people may be surprised to find out that attending a private university could be less expensive than attending a UC institution,” Pascua said.

The Preview Day event, which runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., features hands-on opportunities ranging from campus tours, attending samples classes and a university fair with information on specific majors and programs of study. Students and parents will have the chance to interact during faculty, student and parent panels, as well as gather information about admission and financial aid.

William Jessup University’s student/faculty ratio in its traditional undergraduate program is 12 to 1, enabling students to be engaged and accountable in numerous ways. WJU students don’t have the challenge that public university students have when it comes to assuring that they get the classes they need to complete requirements.

“Our students have little to worry about when it comes to getting the courses they need, which translates to completing their educational goals on time,” Pascua said.

The university is located on an expansive, 126-acre campus and includes extensive athletic facilities and dormitories.
